The Faculty Party Branch of the International College Carrying out Traditional Cultural Practice Activity

        On June 14, all the party members of the faculty party branch of the international college went to Nanchang Lao Zi Academy for party member learning activity. Dean of the International College Yang Hui, Secretary of Party Committee of the College Tu Yan and President of Nanchang Lao Zi Academy Wu Youming attended the activity.

After arrival in Lao Zi Academy, Wu Youming first guided the faculty to visit Lao Zi Academy, and introduced to teachers the life stories of Lao Zi via interior series of building design as well as Lao Zi’s theories of “as good as water”, “harmony of Yin and Yang”, and etc. Afterwards, Wu Youming gave a lecture themed by Lao Zi and Tao Teh King, starting from the introduction to Tao Teh King, summarizing the core concepts in Lao Zi’s Tao Teh King for our teachers with three groups of words such as “Taoism”, “letting things take their own course”, “Tao models itself after nature”, Tao carries the universe, but “born without occupying”; we should follow the law of the development of things for motion and variation, “inaction out of inaction and all action”; everything is harmonious with nature, “everything embraces Yin and Yang, achieving harmony in the end.” He combined with Lao Zi’s thought, instructed “the way for learning” via “studying accumulates wisdom and practicing Dao reduces evil desire”, summarized “the Taoism of personality” via “impossible for long standing on the balls of feet, impossible for rapid progress with haste”, refined “way of doing things” via “virtue is what it is without complement”. The lecture presented was incisive, graceful, and attractive and called for deep thought, making the teachers applaud for praise. After the symposium, the faculty party members conducted deep exchange with teacher Wu Youming on the correct education and guidance for young people.

In the end, Dean Yang Hui of the International College summarized that Lao Zi was a great philosopher and ideologist in ancient China, and Tao Teh King was the treasure of our traditional Chinese culture. As a member of the Communist Party of China, we should first be diligent in learning the traditional culture knowledge in Tao Teh King, and keep advocating the profound traditional Chinese culture. Secondly, we should keep carrying forward the good tradition of the Chinese nation in cultural confidence; only high cultural confidence can provide power and support for the nation. Finally, we should learn to condense culture from history, absorb power from culture and guide and build international college students’ cultural inheritance and noble personality with high cultural confidence.

This activity was a practical education for our college deeply learning and implementing President Xi Jinping’s series of important statements on inheriting and carrying forward excellent traditional Chinese culture. After the activity, the faculty party members had a deep understanding of that cultural confidence is a more fundamental, deeper and more permanent power in the development of a country and a nation. As a member of the Communist Party of China, we should not forget the original, and should absorb the external and face the future, to constantly strengthen the vitality and impact of excellent traditional Chinese culture and keep creating new glory of Chinese culture.
