At 7 p.m. on 26th October, the opening ceremony of the 6th Anniversary of the English Corner was held in the square of the South Campus. Conducted mainly for the students in the International School, the ceremony also welcomed students from other faculties. What's more, it attracted the full involvement of our foreign teachers, including Victoria, Kevin, Damian and Ted.
The ceremony included 6 parts: Free Talk,Foreign Teacher’s Address, English Songs & Interaction, Games, and Experience Sharing. To begin the ceremony, Victoria delivered a speech, expressing her appreciation in taking part in this activity and that she hoped everyone will enjoy it. Following this, the free talk started. Students showed great interest and enthusiasm in talking with the foreign teachers. Some were quite confident and talked freely about their lives and opinions, while others were a little bit shy, but without doubt, all of them were trying their best and enjoying themselves. In the following parts, everyone seemed to get even more excited. With students volunteering to sing English songs and playing games, the ceremony reached its climax. The event’s organisers also invited two grade ten students who gave performances playing the erhu and pipa. The atmosphere was very cheerful.
The ceremony came to a close at 9 p.m., and everyone parted with reluctance. Many students commented that the English corner is a great place to learn more about the English-speaking culture, and to improve English listening and speaking skills. Meanwhile, the opportunities to communicate with foreign teachers contribute substantially to the development of the students’ communication skills and English learning approaches.
