On the afternoon of 15th October 2011, the Number One teaching building was bustling with people and excitement. Groups of charitable students had come here for the recruitment of teaching volunteers, organized by the International school’s Youth Volunteers Association (YVA).
Prior to this, the YVA had publicised relevant information and had received enthusiastic responses and enquiries from students. Even though the students knew of the harsh conditions of the schools in question - Jinpan primary school and Antang primary school – and the difficulties ahead, in total 85 students competed for this worthwhile opportunity. Among them many have fairly intense curricula, but still they did not hesitate to join in. Their strong faith and their spirit of utter devotion were quite impressive. After 4 hours of interviews, the recruitment was satisfactorily concluded at 6 p.m.
The judging panel and the YVA had carefully discussed the roles with the aforementioned schools, and after due consideration, they finally selected some well qualified and warm-hearted students on Thursday. Thus this year’s voluntary teaching activity got off to a good start.
The autumnal breeze might have brought down some leaves, but not the enthusiasm of our volunteers. The YVA will continue to support the work of the teaching volunteers, and to help schools in backward areas bring a glimmer of hope to poor children. We hope that more people will join in and bring our love and hope to those in need.
